India beat the West Indies by 59 runs (D / L method) to win their second One Day International (ODI) at Port of Spain on Monday. Indian skipper Virat Kohli came up with the 42nd century to set a target of 280. However, rain was interrupted in the second half and the target was revised to 270 in 46 overs. But India’s disciplined bowling performance, Windies once again failed to make use of the set platform and lost the game by 59 runs.
Kohli came into bat in the fourth ball of the innings after Shikhar Dhawan initially fell. Rohit Sharma also struggled to strike a strike and played second fiddle, before he was eliminated by Roston Chase. Playing aggressively from the start, he scored 120 off 125 balls, including 14 fours and a six. Shreyas Iyer, who scored his third half-century of his career, was well supported by the Indian captain and shared a 125-run partnership for the fourth wicket with Kohli. In the last 10 overs, the hosts returned strongly and pushed the Indians back with some clever bowling. Men in Blue, comfortable at 212/3, could only add 67 runs for the loss of four wickets in the last 10 overs.
In reply, Evin Lewis was the only batsman to show some steel, scoring 65 off 80 balls. Regularly, the loss of home team wickets in bad shot selections has once again hurt. The game was equalized until the 34th over, after which West Indies fell to 172/4 from 182/8 in the 37th over. Going into the space of four overs, these wickets didn’t help at all. Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s four-fer, which has an excellent return catch, is a selection of bowlers. A brief rain interrupted the game and the second innings was reduced to 46 overs, a 270 revised target.
